Clouds and Totality
Clouds and Totality
May 15. Total lunar eclipse. The Moon deep in Earth's shadow, burning copper red — and drifting clouds choosing that exact moment to move across the frame. Susan Gunn didn't fight it. She captured it. One single exposure of one of the rarest sights in the night sky, partially veiled by weather, more dramatic because of it.
Now look closer. Just behind the blood Moon, faint but unmistakably present, Saturn appears through the haze. Two celestial bodies in the same frame during totality — an alignment that requires the planets, the calendar, the clouds, and the photographer to all be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time.
Clouds and Totality is a document of a night the universe put on a show — and one photographer was paying close enough attention to catch all of it.
