On the night Susan Gunn captured this frame on the shores of Destin, three rare things aligned in the same sky: a full Moon rising, Venus glowing through the rigging of an abandoned sailboat, and Comet A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS — a visitor that won't pass Earth again in any of our lifetimes.
The old sailboat has been left where the tide took it, tilted into the pale sand. Its mast cuts a clean line through the dark Gulf sky. And above it — quietly, without fanfare — history was happening. One single exposure caught all of it.
Lost In Moonlight is a document of a specific night that cannot be repeated. The comet is gone. The alignment will not come again. What remains is this print.
