Just before dawn on May 19, 2022, the waning gibbous Moon lingered in a sky that was already starting to warm. Susan was there with a single frame to capture the overlap — the Moon holding its ground as the first blues and soft pinks of morning began to rise around it.
A single exposure, no compositing, no layering. What makes this image work is timing: the narrow window where night hasn't quite released its grip and day hasn't yet claimed the sky. The Moon reflects sunlight back toward a world that's about to be lit by that same sun directly — a small celestial handoff, witnessed in real time.
