This is the only print in Susan Gunn's collection where her two signature styles meet in a single frame. The upper half is astro photography — a full Moon, sharp and luminous, rising warm over the Gulf of Mexico. The lower half is intentional camera movement — the waves beneath it rendered silky and fluid, light dissolving into motion. Two separate single exposures, two completely different techniques, joined at the horizon.
The result feels less like a photograph and more like a feeling — that specific late-night quiet of standing at the water's edge with the Moon overhead, the Gulf moving beneath it, everything else gone still. Silver light traces across the surface of the waves and pulls your eye from sky to sea and back again.
Night Swimming is a collector's print — technically ambitious, emotionally immediate, and unlike anything else in the collection.
