Stand in front of this print long enough and you'll lose track of which way is up. That's the point. On a perfectly still night along Scenic Highway 30A, Western Lake became a mirror so precise that the Milky Way exists twice in this frame — once above, once below — and the line between them disappears entirely.
This is one of the rarest conditions a night photographer can encounter — a coastal dune lake, completely flat, on a moonless night with no wind. Susan Gunn was there. She waited for it. And she captured it in a single exposure that makes the Gulf Coast feel like the edge of the universe.
Western Lake in Space is the print people stand in front of and go quiet. It earns that reaction every time.
